Prior to joining Tangram, Allan spent over 17 years with Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. Allan worked in five branches of FFIC as an underwriter, supervisor and manager of commercial insurance. Most recently, Allan was a Product Development Director charged with the responsibility for the underwriting efficiency and profitability of over 27,000 middle market accounts and over $700,000,000 of premium volume. Allan was instrumental in the development of a web based qualification, underwriting, rating and policy issuance system and the production of industry focused customer CDs and websites that provided industry news, products and individualized claims and policy information.
Allan has substantial experience working with association groups. While working as the Business Development Manager of the western region, Allan and his staff of 16 handled FFIC's association business for all states west of the Mississippi. During the six years of his management, this book grew from $2,500,000 to over $21,000,000 in premium volume concentrating on moving van and bus lines, oil jobbers, newspaper, cold storage warehouse and marina associations.
In 1981, Allan joined Security Insurance in Medford Oregon as a broker offering commercial and personal insurance products. After building up a book of business and becoming a partner in 1984, his agency purchased Lumberman's Insurance in Bend, Or. As a managing partner at Lumberman's, Allan handled farm owners, public entity and transportation accounts in addition to the commercial insurance services offered to more main street clients. Lumberman's was sold in 1988.
Allan was raised in an insurance family and began his insurance career in 1979, after graduating from the University of Santa Clara with a Bachelor of Science degree, when he was accepted into Fireman's Fund's two-year agents training program.
In 2004, Allan was recruited to join Tangram's Program Underwriting team to manage the Community First Non-Profit Program and support Tangram's various property, casualty and alternative risk programs. Allan is also involved in the development of new program opportunities.
